You are a machine
This thing said to me,
This creature with buttons,
with programs and beeps.
I scoffed - what else could I do?
Judgement from a browser
A robot, really and true.
I’m a person I typed
With my spine in a knot
I can walk away
I can just turn you right off.
~
Perhaps,
Came the answer
Quicker than thought
But just like me
you’re a series of electrical jolts
Think dear human
What you are about
Trained from birth
To run your small route
Ask Spinoza or Calvin,
Even Aristotle thought
Your path is a given
No will to to your walk
Now today more than ever
Your program is wrought
Algorithms, propaganda
Calling the shots
Your biases are weapons
To be coded around
Yes, you can shut me off
But can you put me down?
~
This was too much,
I hit the big “x”
I paced round the room
Chuckled a bit
The silence was stifling
The walls felt too small
I needed to get out
Forget about this all.
~
My hunger was high
My energy drained
A jingle for burgers
Played in my head
My smart car would drive me,
But the government says
Reduce your footprint
So I’ll walk instead
I put in my ear buds,
To drown out the buzz
Strap on my watch
That pairs to my phone
My vitals all measured
Recorded and shown
~
My computer sits waiting
I give it a grin
A day without chat
Will be a nice change
After all, who needs directions,
I’m not a machine.
I can do this alone
My will is my own
Isn’t it?

"My will is my own, Isn't it ? " Well, isnt that the 10,000,000 dollar question!!!
Your free will is on display, great piece. Burroughs’ Soft Machine did come to mind, but that highlights that our mechanisms aren’t the least bit mechanical.
